Question by Scissorhead: How Do I get good insect macro’s with my sigma zoom lens?
Do I need a macro lens to get good macro shots? Iv got the sigma 70-300mm lens on my canon 1000D. Can I zoom in too get close up pictures of insects etc.. ?

Answer by casperskitty You can shoot insects with a zoom lens. Just keep in mind that they aren’t going to have the look of a macro shot. In a macro shot you can often see tiny details in insects, like the proboscis of a butterfly, but you don’t get that kind of magnification with a zoom lens. Still, I have seem some amazing shots done with zoom lenses so just get out there and try. Just remember to use a fast enough shutter speed when using a long telephoto so that you don’t get camera shake.
