Which martial art would help me best if I was going to get into a street fight?
When I mean street fight I don’t mean a life or death situation. I mean like a someone who wants to fight you on the street or jump you.

try out kovars. i heard they are really good. just look up “Kovars Satori Acadamy”
close combat training or hand to hand combat
New age MMA – Tai Bo Pilate and Yoga !
Kick Boxing
I just asked a similar question. I believe Krav Maga.
any martial art will help you on the street.
Ninjutsu-the art of the ninja-is the ultimate martial art, and it would definitely help you better than any other martial art could in such a situation. try studying Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (a slightly modernized version of ninjutsu that is probably the closest thing u will find to historical ninjutsu). if you successfully reach, and earn a rank, then u most likely will be able to defeat any thugs that try to attack u, with or without weapons.
Hope this helps!!!
Will learning to drive help you if you were going to get behind the wheel and drive?
The art isn’t what makes a martial artist – any art can be effective or useless depending on the practitioner. How well you learn and how well you are able to use what you learn are what dictate great martial artists.
The style is not as important as the teacher. Remember –
A poor teacher can transfer a great art poorly, thus making it poor in your hands. Find a good teacher, one who is experienced, knowledgeable, and serious, and you will, in turn, find a great art.
To quote Bruce Lee…”The way to learn fighting,is to fight”
First of all, let me say that I agree with Hyouden on this one.
There really is no one martial art that is better than any other. Quite frankly, if there was an ultimate style out there, there wouldn’t be so many. It all just depends on the user.
That being said, the biggest variable is how you train to use it. I’ve known several people that were great in the gym or dojo, but horrible in real life.
In my experience as a martial artist (12 years), a fighter (4 years), and a military operator, I would have to say, that no one martial art can prepare you for everything. All you can do is learn everything you can and use it the best way you can.
Try Krav Maga, its one of the most efficient martial at in the world it does not require you to be lightning fast or to be strong, because it uses techniques to take a guy out
Silat, it’s a raw combat skill that not “smoothed by civilization” yet. It’s from Indonesia. I’ve practice it for 15 years and never loose a fight yet.
ok hyouden is reading to many of my postings and stealing my line i will have to send my ninja cats to take care of him.
any martial art is good in a life or death street fight. for some one to say one style is better then another or their style is the best for street fighting. they know nothing about martial arts.
you need to have a good teacher and train hard in your style. the way you train in the school is the way you will fight in the street.
a good instructor can show you how to over come your weakness and turn them into your advantage.
a poor teacher or poor training habits no matter what style will do you little to no good
there is no ultimate martial are no perfect technique that will insure you victory. it take time and practice. some style do take longer then other.
if there was an ultimate martial art then there would only be that one style and no other.
i use only karate in the street fights i’ve been in and had few issues with it.
practice makes perfect , u would have to counter the style that is
being forced upon u , which there is many , for u my lad i would
practice the 100 m dash.
There are many answers to this question. Here is mine.
I can say that any style could help if it gives you the ability to believe in yourself, that in its self can help avoid conflict. However if it comes down to an actual fight keep away from “traditional” styles, in my view they are useless in real combat. Anything that does kata and tag are useless in real life. That is what won’t help, what will is anything you can learn that is realistic and “modern” I lean to mma styles myself but what ever you lean as long as it gives you the abilities that really work. Have a training partner “mug” you. Don’t play tag or tappy tappy have them really mug you and go at it. If it works it works. If you have “traditional” skills try them out as well and see how far you get with it.
Kenjitsu. No one will even jump you if you carry a katana.
go buy a hand gun and give it up!
or try JUDO! it the answer to all these type
questions! JUDO!
Ha, well… Um… See I could name a variety of martial arts and if the fight was in one day and you had no prior experience, you’d get your ass kicked. Martial Art… Style… Bleh… No. Any and every style would help you if you were good at them. Style has little to do with a fight. Everything comes down to the skill of yourself and the assailant. But to answer your question, and please do not take these in strength order. They are all equally good.
External Styles:
1. Sanda/Sanshou
2. Kickboxing
3. Wing Chun
4. Brazilian/Japanese Jujitsu
5. Bajiquan
Internal Styles: Not for quick mastery… Takes a long time to master.
1. Taijichuan
2. Baguazhang
3. Xingyiquan
4. Luihebefaquan
I hope this helped you out with this. If you have any more questions feel free to contact me at baguazhangmaster@hotmail.com or find me on you tube at http://youtube.com/user/baguazhangmaster .
