One of the few book resources for learning anything about the actual techniques and practices of graffiti artists. Combined with a good introduction on the styles and history of graff artwork.

I bought this book at Barns and Noble when it was about two weeks old. I really liked the explanation of the graffiti world and it’s history. I’ve already taken amazing strides in my own style and I always look back to this book for the basics if I get graffwriters block.
The only thing I would have included was something I found on the Internet about creating your name. After you practice the alphabet in bubble and block letters pick out the ones you like to draw the most and scramble them up until you find something that sticks out to you.
I would also suggest taking a good look at graffiti and illustration books in general. Looking at other examples of the art form that you pursue can give you inspiration and confidence.

I recently purchased a copy of this book and I love it! I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I greatly enjoyed the detailed history Mr. Martinez included in this fine instructional manual, which is also a visual feast. High quality, full color photographs of all the techniques he describes, demonstration photos of Mr. Martinez in action, and as another reviewer pointed out, suggestions to make your own graff art legal while on public display, all combine to make this a must-have book for anyone who is an artist, who enjoys looking at or making art, or who just wants to feel happy and relaxed looking at all the wonderful colors Mr. Martinez has used in this book.
Put this book on your coffee table before you invite friends over, then stand back and prepare to be amazed!

Just received my copy yesterday and I am blown away with the quality of the art and photos in it! This is an unprecedented manual that really breaks down the art of graffiti to understandable steps. The way cool graphics and eye popping colors make this a must have for all artists and art educators. Mr. Martinez is not only a master technician but an exceptional teacher as well in the way that he explains, technique, materials, styles, the elements of art and, incredibly the HISTORY of graffiti in a very short, sequential page by page format. As an educator I also appreciated his disclaimers about the legal ramifications of “tagging” and how you can turn your graff skills into appropriate and appreciated art.
