Free koto a traditional Japanese music instrument demonstration @ NRT Airport recorded on 2/27/07… I’m not sure if non-Asians know this, but the core Japanese borrows heavily from the Chinese culture. As does the Koreans. However both Japanese and Koreans have their own unique ethnic “spins” and the cultures are now eolved to uniquely their own. Both are excellent in their own ways. But my point is, the core is very Chinese. :-) So this Koto instrument is quite popular in Chinese culture. It is call Guzheng. According to wikipedia, these string instruments are aka “zither” defined in wiki as a musical string instrument mainly used in folk music. The first Zither existing is a Chinese Guqin found in a nobel tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng of 433 BC.
