Baling Silage with McHale Fusion and John Deere 6930 Tractor

Came across this outfit, and farmer generously permitted access, so went in to see this nice Claas Liner 2900 Rake with New Holland TS 115, closely followed by John Deere 6930 with McHale Fusion2 Baler/wrapper. Then I noticed the sun was about to emerge – a large patch of blue sky was stretching across from the sea. A second field was dealt with also, so keep watching! Outfit was that of Richard Lewis, Whitemill, Carmarthen. (Seen also on “Chasing the Deere”)

I suppose there’ll always be a need for a baler that doesn’t wrap if you want hay and have a barn to store it in. The guys who bought a wrapper must be feeling sick, though!

I think this was for silage rather than hay, but a barn is still needed, ideally. The plastic must cost a lot, and you have to pay to dispose of it after, as well (not allowed to burn it, produces black smoke). But barns don’t come cheap and bales are more easily taken somewhere and fed to the cattle.

I really like this video Alan,
I allways wondered how a farmer could afford to wrap all those bales in plastic as it must be a lot of money to buy that wrap. There are better balers than that one but it is doing every thing in one hop.
I guess if you don’;t have a barn to put the hay in guess that is the cheap way.

Not surprised at the secrecy – they have a good product there, it looks good, too. The Claas looks a bit thrown together. Must be frustrating for the driver though to keep on stopping and backing up! . . . Alan
Great baler made a stones throw from me here . Fusion 1 not as good as 2 you want major horses pullin one as you are constantly pulling 2 bales . They practicully closed most of the roads in that part of the west of ireland when first testing them such was the secrecy all those yrs ago in the late 90s and early 00s .

That was a real find – I was looking at the notice board outside our local chapel (fantastic view from up there) as it’s totally in Welsh and i was seeing if I could de-cypher any of it. Then I saw this baler enter a field gate, some half mile away and chased off to find him . . . the rest you know, and there’s more to come. . . . Alan
